In 2011, Rose Hills introduced their newest development, Mission Hills, as a relevant commitment to California culture and history. For many, the most important and symbolic feature of Mission Hills will be the sanctuary for replica of the image of Our Lady of Guadalupe, known as the Patroness of the Americas. The image is a powerful symbol of hope and strength, as recorded in the history of Mexico and recognized by our local Latino community. Transcending religion, culture and country, people worldwide embrace her.
Through a special relationship with the Basilica of Guadalupe in Mexico City, Rose Hills was gifted this authentic replica of the original image, which is displayed at the Basilica. Additionally, a stone from the foundation of the original Basilica, only the second ever gifted, was given to Rose Hills.
2011
On December 4, 2011, a bright Sunday morning, many community faithful celebrated the arrival of a blessed image of Our Lady of Guadalupe to her new home at Rose Hills Memorial Park. Gathering at Mission Hills Plaza de Reunion to pay homage, they followed the image in a public procession to SkyRose Chapel where a special blessing ceremony was held. Afterwards, “Las Mañanitas,” a musical tribute, was enjoyed by people mingling in the courtyard through the crisp and sunny afternoon.
